Roopa lives a wealthy lifestyle with her husband, Prakash Chandra, who works for her dad, Manoharlal Verma, and a daughter named Sharda alias Pinky. Roopa and Prakash do not get along and Roopa suspects that Prakash is having an affair. Her suspicious nature gets a boost when a woman named Sharda Dayal Sharma moves into a house next door. Roopa starts vile rumors about Sharda having an affair with Prakash.

Shanti and Suraj lead a content life until he abandons her to marry Ruchi. Shanti and Ruchi both give birth to boys, who grow up and fight each other, unaware that they are half-brothers.

Bijli (Dimple Kapadia) is the bubbling youthful girl from Chandanpur. Her father, Rameshwar (Satyen Kappu) always holds a grudge about not having a son, but she proves it wrong. Rest of the story shows how Bijli fights with the obstacles that comes in her way with the help of Ravi (Kiran Bedi).

Radical journalist Diwakar clashes with his traditional father and a scheming politician, Vithalrao, who seizes his newspaper. Disgusted, Diwakar leaves home. His wealthy girlfriend, Nalini, initially supports Vithalrao but later campaigns for Diwakar, who represents slum-dwellers in an election. Despite her father's support, Nalini urges voters for Diwakar. Nalini wins, but Diwakar's loss is depicted as a moral victory, critiquing middle-class materialism.

Utpal Dutt stars as Chaudhry, a landowner who comes to town looking to get his daughter Sunita (Zarina Wahab) married to the son of his childhood friend Khanna. Khanna's son, Jai (Farooque Shaikh), isn't interested in marrying anyone, but his determined father nonetheless plans a trip to Chaudhry's village for Jai, hoping things will work out. What ensues is a hilarious comedy of errors.
